I am toying with the idea of fitting a Heat Recovery System. Have any of you guys had any experience with these?

is that the same as the people in 'it isn't easy being green?' had? They have a website, you could ask them how they found it, as on tv they weren't too enthusiastic about it in the long run.

Sorry, I'd never heard of it apart from that. The place in wales, centre of alternative tecnology might be able to help, they're really good.

My neighbour has put the geothermal piping in for a new house which is nearing completion . I think he was originally planning full heat recovery but had to modify the plan for some reason . Another mate is working on the restoration and extension of a derelict typical 2 storey cottage . This will have the full geothermal & heat exchange system with no supplementary heating . I think he said outlay was @ 15,000 euro with a payback of only 8 yrs but I would say that is a bit optimistic . I don't suppose either place will be inhabited for another 6 to 9 months , so couldn't comment on how good it is , but the guys would be happy to tell you what they have learned during the installation .

Thanks for the responces. I have watched the being green series and the recovery system that they are using dont seem to stand much chance of being efficient. On an old house much time has to be spent on a complete draught proofing proceedure before a HRS will work. On a new build this can be designed into the build structure. It involves a heavy duty membrain lining and was described as like living in a bubble. The makers claim a 95% efficiency achievable <does Ireland have a trade descriptions act?>. So dispite the sales blurb. I need to talk to people who have one fitted. So now I`m off to look at that web site.
Cheers lads. Wink
