Hi. We have a broody sitting eggs which are due to hatch tomorrow. Should we keep them away from the flock for a while or what?. My big dummies guide to chooks is in a box somewhere Confused

Hello mister,

I would personally keep them away in a broody run .. not to protect them from the flock but mainly to protect them for magpies and the likes.

I usually let mine out once they are well feathered .. and can fend for themselves in case they get lost.

What are you hatching ?

Hi Guys. Thanks for that. My young Dorking hen went broody and so we let her sit. The eggs will be a cross between the cock dorking and commercial hens. The cock is a young bird and as yet has to perfect his art, Confused

So how many of the eggs are fertile we are yet to find out. fingers crossed. Did you get any more bees?. I took a swarm last week and they are doing fine. Awkward bugger it was, right at the top of an apple tree. Good luck. Wink

Any luck on the chicks so far ? you should start seeing some shells on the side of the nest as the hen will push them out ..

and no bees so far .. but glad to hear you finally got some again .. that will rejuvinate you a bit !

Well we got just two chicks. The rest were infertile but its a bit of fun watching my young dorking hen doing the mothering bit Laughing

. I was offered another swarm a few days ago but did not have a hive set up for them and so had to let them go Crying or Very sad

I will be looking to get some frames/foundation etc soon as I will probably divide this one colony.

Hope you get some more yourself.
