|
|
Hi,
I've a 6 mth old tamworth/oxford cross weaner that is losing hair on a patch (couple of inches) on his back over last few days. Skin looks fine though and no sign infection, lice etc.
In a group of 3 males - largest and dominant of the three so don't think the others are to blame!! All 3 are fully active and healthy besides.
Any ideas what it might be and remedy?
tks

Hello Wardy
Do you dose your pigs against parasites? If they are all in good condition it could be mites. You won't be able to see them as they are tiny and pale in colour. Because the pig has thick skin they don't usually bother it much. They live in the hair follicles and cause hair loss.
In the large white or york breed there is a genetic form of alopecia. |

Hey Dara
No haven't dosed since i got them as have always looked healthy and are putting on weight no problem. Would have been dosed for worms before I got (bought in at 2 months).
Would you normally dose for parasites/mites and if so what would you use?
many thanks |

| I use Animec. It's a widely available all-in-one injectable that kills a host of internal and external parasites. |
