The protests have been seized by the international media as further examples of the jingoistic and racist British character and short memory of her people (given the history of a country which not so long ago ruled and plundered the wealth of a third of the planet). But we shouldn't be surprised. This wealth never made it down to the forebears of the people who are protesting. They were never told the truth of suffering inflicted on the native people of the colonies in their name and the 'promises' that were made to them by consecutive British interests, promise that are now made by the likes of Shell (spit).
Because they have been treated like mushrooms, by a manipulative establishment, ordinary Britains can't understand why they have to put up with unbridled immigration, the erosion of their 'national identity', why they can't win the world cup and the sad fact that they are not necessarily first in the line for 'British' jobs......etc......etc.......

I would agree with what Dara says. I would also add that, who in the UK can not call themselves "foreign". Lets take out the Scots, the Irish in the UK, the Welsh, the Cornish, the West Indians, the people from Asia [China, India, Pakistan, the Far East] the East Europeans, Italians, French etc etc etc. What are we left with. People of Norman [French} descent, people of Viking [Scandinavian] descent. The Queen [German] descent, Prince Philip [Greek]....................... Yeah.... get the bloody foreigners out.......

Its a very difficult situation,if they made the foreigners leave, it would only be fair that Brits and Irish have to return home.
but it would a good  idea  to get all the Jocks out of Westminster

Interesting points of view.  Dyed in the wool Anglo Saxon me self Wink  I can understand the protesters point of view to a point as I did when Irish Ferries got rid of all their Irish staff. I am still wondering how they got away with it. A Lot of water has gone under the bridge since the days of empire and what went on in the distant past should have little relevance IMHO. In times of recession I would expect workers to try and fight for their livelihoods no matter what nationality they are. Say I polishing my union card. Very Happy

Anglo Saxon.

Descendants from two Germanic tribes. The Angeln and the Saxons.

Sorry Wayland, that makes you German Wink

I on the other hand am pure Irish, on my fathers side, his father is descended from Scottish Gallowglass on one side and Cromwellian Planters on the other side. My mother's ancestory is Scottish, her maiden name is Presley.

So I'd say if we were all to go way back, like me we would turn out to be pure Heinz 57 Varieties........  Laughing

Laughing  Laughing  Laughing . German!!!!. Not quite me thinks. Germanic for sure As most northern Europeans are including the Celtic tribes who originate from the Hartz lands. As to the spread westward of the Angles, Saxons, and Juts to Britain after the Romans left, my ancestry is in with this lot somewhere. Your Scott's connections Quarryman will almost certainly have originated from Ireland. The Scotti tribe to be precise which gives Scotland its name. This was going on at about the same time as my lot were colonising the east. Did you see the documentary about the blood of the Irish?. Very interesting I thought.

You should see the old people living on the extreme West coast of Ireland, they all have the look of Basques. It was thought it might be a throwback to the Spanish Armada but after The Blood of the Irish, I can now see the connection.
