I have seen some debate about the need for a special "Dangerous Animals " licence for some species ( eg Wild Boar and miniature Water Buffalo if I remember correctly ) . Just stumbled across this website , with relevant extract below .
http://www.npws.ie/en/WildlifePlanningtheLaw/
Dangerous animals
While there is no specific legislation in Ireland regarding dangerous animals, the provisions referred to in Section 52 are applicable to the release into the wild of dangerous animals. Furthermore, the Minister has power, under subsection (6)(a) of Section 52 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 as amended by the Wildlife Amendment Act, 2000, to prohibit the possession or introduction of any species or any part, product or derivative of such a species that may be detrimental to native species. This power has not yet been exercised by the Minister but regulations are being considered in the context of measures to exclude potentially invasive non-native species

| I have heard rumours of a strange beast in the hills behind Coolaney shock: . Something dark and about the size of a Labrador dog but moves more like a cat . Very fast . Perhaps someone has beaten you to it ? |

There have been ongoing reports of sightings of "large cats" in the Fermanagh, Cavan, Leitrim, Sligo area. They might be escaped/released Pumas or similar from private collections in The 6 Counties. I say this because it was/is legal to keep these types of animals there with a special licence, while in the South it is illegal.
The last one I have heard of was in the mountains North of Drumcliff. |

well guys i have to hold my hand up! We,ve had a wild boar escape into the ox mountians some 8 or 9 weeks ago, we serched all the forests in the area to no avail then we got to here about a strange black pig/bear type beast reported to be roaming the towns and vilages of co. Leiteim on the local radio station (some 25 miles away from where we live) we checked out these sightings only to find he had moved on, and at the moment we don,t know where our wild boar is so guys watch out for strange excavations or strange black pig looking beast in your area, we do have off spring from him , 12 at this point and at least two more sows in pig to him!
