Hi there,
just wanted to let you know that the annual Kilfenora Organic Fair (North Clare) is on again.
October 6th 10-17
October 7th 11-17
Typically there are:
Fruit and veg
Plants
Cheeses
Fish & Meats
Jams and preserves
Bread, cakes, flapjacks etc.
Fair Trade Goods
Willow Baskets and other crafts
Herbal meds, handmade soaps, essential oils etc.
Irish Seedsavers Association (info, veg. seeds, some fruit trees and shrubs)
Coffee, tea, buns and smoothies are served and there's a nice raffle too.
Vaughan's Pub always puts organic meals with Burren meats etc. on the menu and there is an ecumenical harvest mass in Kilfenora Cathedral on Sunday afternoon.
Hope to see you there. (I'll be (wo)manning the Seedsavers stall).

Forgot to say where it is, duh. (But then Kilfenora is tiny...).
It's in the village hall, between O'Gorman's Shop and the Burren Centre.

In all likelihood yes. But because it is one particular family organizing it one can never know. Things happen. I'll post a note here as soon as I hear anything.
BTW. a friend in Oranmore just told me about a new organic market (or 'just' farmers' market?) in Oranmore on Thursdays. She said "at the carpark" which means nothing to me but probably does to Oranmorians. She said it was superb. |

Thanks for that!..Ill keep an eye out for any updates.
Yip, the market in Oranmore is pretty good. A good selection of everything especially meats, fish, cheeses, breads and veg.
The meat is from outside Gort (Peterswell)..........excellent butchers and excellent meat selections.
Dont know what we did without it.

Sadly, for the first time in many years there will be no Kilfenora Organic Market in 2008.
This is mostly due to lack of sufficient numbers of sellers. With the proliferation of regular farmers' markets around the place (Ennis, Miltown Malbay, Ballyvaughan, Doolin...) over the past few years most sellers have dedicated outlets already and find it difficult to serve an additional weekend event. When Kilfenora started it was pretty much one of a kind in the area and a big attraction but now it has become "a victim of its own success".
A new kind of event (with sales included) would be nice to have (to coincide with the traditional autumn organic livestock sale). If you have any bright ideas please post them here or PM me.

Sorry to hear that! Its an awful pity. But that said, there are worse ways to go than being "a victim of your own success".
