Hi all!

I am just wondering if anybody knows where, in Ireland, you can get spawn-impregnated plugs for growning your own mushrooms on/in tree logs.

See fungi.com for what I mean.

eBay has quite a few sellers but mainly in the UK. Postage costs are prohibitive and Im not sure as to the regs for importing mushrooms into the emerald isle.

I know that there is a course the organic centre (Co.Leitrim) later in the year based on this practice but I havent been able to get the tutors name to see where they source theirs.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Killerflies , sorry about the delay in reply . Did you have any luck ? I did quite a bit of googling on the subject a while ago . I didn't find anyone in Ireland but there were maybe 1/2 doz sensible looking mail-order sites but none of the products were cheap , let alone the postage . I expect you have already found the same .
What were you looking for ? I was interested in an edible one which is also quick at breaking down conifer tree stumps . Can't remember its name now .Yet another abandoned project . Ah , well ..........
Good luck  Wink

Yip, found the same myself when browsing. It would be hardly worth your while Id imagine.

That said, I am hoping to attend the "grow your own mushrooms", i.e. mushroom logs in the Organic centre in Leitrim in the next month or so. There you learn all about where and how to get and grow your mushrooms and you even get to bring home an innoculated log from there.

Ill post any details I learn when I get back.

Beir bua!

Do keep us updated on that  Wink

I have just remembered that I bought a professional growers guide from  a guy who reckoned to be an expert on home growing all sorts of edibles such as Oysters and Shitake from found or shop-bought specimens . He said it was very easy provided that you maintain 100% sterile conditions .
I didn't get around to reading the rather heavy book but will try to find it & post up the ISBN , or you are welcome to borrow it  Wink  . Good luck .
