Does anyone have any experience of these fish ? Someone has just started to farm them locally , which has aroused my curiosity . I'll see if they would like to say a few words on this forum .
More specifically , I was wondering whether it might be worth trying to raise a few myself , in a fairly large pond which is fed by mountain stream .
Main concern would be the possibility of escapees and their impact on other species ( and my pocket if there are regulations ) . We all know about the mink problem but I am pretty sure that there are wild Char in some of the lochs .

Interesting this is. I have just read a book "The Longshoreman". The author has spent all his working life researching the viability of commercial fishing etc. He mentioned the apparent earthy taste of some freshwater fish. This is caused by a bacteria that exists on the surface of the muddy bottom for still or sluggish lakes or streams etc. This is not poisonous but does taint the fish. Fast moving streams donot let silt build up on the bottom and so the fish are unaffected by taint. This would explain why some trout taste muddy and others dont. He also states that the taint can be removed by soaking the fish in a salt and vinegar solution over night. It would be interesting to here from your neighbour as to how he gets over this problem.
