I am really not happy about some of the commercial ads that keep appearing on this forum . I can't get them switched off unless someone pays for the upkeep of the site , which is currently free .
I am going to see if the site providers can at least substitue ads which might be of more interest or relevance to us . If anyone has any experience in this sort of thing , please let me know . Wink

I thought that the ads try to be relevant to words and phrases within the site, so if for example a lot of chat contains the word "Dublin" then the ads that pop up might be "eat out in Dublin" or as i have found "Find a property in Dublin, Ohio" The reason the dating site is up most is some of the thread relate to social aspects and meeting up, and if you look at the dating ad it has the words "meet" in it. I think that as the boards get bussier and the talk digresses into other areas the type of free ads will change.

At least that how I was given to understand it works, I have a forum for college and all the ads relate to education , and not surprisingly food and wine Wink (its a good college).

I think we should try to put wierd and unusal words and see what we get in the way of adds.

Right I'm off to split logs, repair a puncture and try to drain off the last of the flooding in the garden.

I think it works better if the words are in the thread title, but did notice that the ads after your post were about property in Ireland (site obviously feels that you dont need a date)

Just reading other threads, and when you are in the thread realting to wood, timber and turf all the free ads realate to the subject, so just keep talking and the ads will change

Been watching the ads for a while and it does seem to be the words used in the post subject title that influence the ads. They have been more relevant today with ads for wool shops coming up in the knitting post and ads for turf grass and lawns coming up in the turf post. If the subject title just has one specific word then that seems to select the ad.
