Hello,

I just wanted to ask what was the going rate for someone helping out on a farm ?

It's a 140 acres dairy farm with 40 milking cows and a limousine bull ... and the job is general mucking, feeding, repairs and so on ..

A dog strayed in to us last week, and the owner is the farmer ... and he offerred me a job for a couple of hours/days a week, flexible to suit anything I have to do at home ...

hurray ! and on top of that, it's barely 2 miles down the road .. so within walking/cycling distance ...

so am I what you would call a cowboy ? without the horse but I could ride the billy !

Camile

The going rate is invariably double what you are prepared to pay if you want someone to work for you , or half of what you ask if you are going to work for someone else .
Don't worry about being a cowboy without a horse . There are plenty of cowboy tradesmen with no skill so I think you will be outstanding in your chosen career  Wink .
Casual labour around here is 10 euro / hour for cash-in-hand . Good luck Wink

QuickDraw Gerry reporting ...

I've worked a good few hours and it's class .. and I'm getting 10euros /h ... so it's not bad I think ...

knowing that I have no qualification or skills as such .. I had never driven a tractor or milked a cow ... I now know how to drive one ..

and will learn how to milk fairly soon ... although I allready came home with some milk ... wouhou !
