I got quite a surprise when these coloured discs of light showed up on the pic . They weren't visible when I took it . I did a bit of googling on " orbs " and found that they are a very common occurrence .
As always there are at least 2 possible explanations . One is that it is a quirk of the camera itself . The other is that they are spheres of energy which the camera can detect altho they are not visible to the naked eye .
Dunno . Interesting , anyway .
The pic wasn't supposed to be of anything in particular . There was a dramatic sunset to the East ( left ) of this and I was clicking away to get a panoramic view of the skyline . It just happened to be the night of the midsummer solstice !
This is an enlarged copy of the bottom 2 pheres in the first pic .
Someone did send me a very technical explanation of the camera quirk referred to earlier . I will try to find and copy it below

Can be , and often is , due to dust but I think it has to be in the air rather than on the lense to give the halo effect ( when it reflects the flash ) .
It was too damp to be dusty that night . I imagine that midges might do the same and there are plenty of those around here but I have never got any sort of distortion before .
I took about 1/2 doz pics in reasonably quick succession . There was nothing strange on any of the others and definitely no light source other than faint moon and stars . These were much higher above the skyline .
On the other hand the tekkie article , which I still can't find, did mention something about "ghosting" which can occur when you click rapidly .
So , , still dunno . |

I love this kind of stuff. Often the answer is disappointing once the scientists get hold of a thing. Life would be so boring if we did not have mysteries me thinks. Keep us posted Blowin
