Whats the fishing like near you? I am still finding my way around but like the Kilmore Quay area. I have had some half decent Flounders and Mullet from the beach.

used to do quite a bit of sea fishing, but with the travelling and the lack of catching (mostly the lack of fish) gave it up and now pike fish, for sport only, not having much success at that as well at the moment, but its good to get out......

Absolutely nothing from the boat in Sligo bay a couple of days ago altho' there were a few very productive marks earlier in the year. A couple of commercials towed a huge length of net into a closed circle which cleaned out most of the Spurdog and static nets close in to the reefs accounted for the majority of decent pollack . But it is still very odd that there aren't any whiting or coalfish there . Well , not that we could catch anyway . Need to go further West , methinks Wink

This sounds bad. Moving over from East Anglia I was hoping for better than the fished out North sea. The Kilmore area seems to be teaming with fish from the beach. I noticed on a number of casts fish jumping as my lead hit the water. Much much too far out to see what they were of course Laughing

My comment was rather negative , sorry !
On a more positive note I am convinced that half the reason why very few fish are taken from the shore around here is simply that no-one makes much of an attempt to find them . Easy-to-fish rock marks are scarce but plenty should be worth a try with the slightly more specialised gear eg rotten bottoms and lead lifts . John Dory have been netted very close in to the cliffs and I had a 22 lb conger straight down off the end of Inniscrone pier .
