da dada da da da daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

it's a competition to find the bigest slug. Post your pictures here, with a ruler next to your slug - measurements of 45 feet will not be believed, for those inclined to photoshop....

the biggest one wins.
let the slug fest begin!

Quite right too . You are supposed to bring them in and photo them on the kitchen table . How else will you get an accurate measurement ?

Great idea for a bit of fun but I wonder if we should have a warning beside the topic title ---- " not to be viewed by unaccompanied townies " , or something like that Laughing .
And it will be against the rules to elongate the slugs by squishing them .

I am not sure how I feel about feeding them whole carrots , either .

wow, Jack - that's some slug!

I remember the ones in north wales being huge - I mean, like six inches long, or longer. with the recent rain here I'm sure we're attracting bigger slugs.

maybe it's just that I haven't been so great at weeding this year and they have somewhere to hide...

Me too! Although I'm getting good at snails too. Have recently discovered what snail eggs (larvae?) look like after finding a hole in the soil near my tomato plant with a load of little tiny round white things in it. Gross. Dug them out and threw them on the compost and wondered what they were. Then the next day near the plant beside that one (and we're talking now about the one plant that I've grown from seed and which is doing really well) I caught a snail snuggled in the soil - pulled it out to get rid of it and it was kind of hard to do. I think it was in the middle of laying or whatever it is they do. Loads more of those little white things. I got out as many as I could but need to keep a close on those two pots from now on.
