A tip when setting up electric netting is to lay a strip of damp proof course from builders merchant or strips of plastic at least 6 inches wide under the netting. It takes a bit longer to set up but it makes trimming the grass back loads easier and quicker and saves on the battery as no shorting out

I know this is an oldish post but recently I was asked to look after a neighbours chooks for a few days. He had an electric poultry fence around his coup held in position by some flimsy plastic posts. Useless! The bottom two strands were touching the ground due to sagging. After pointing this out and eventually grabbing hold of the fence to convince him that his fence did not work, we set about attaching the posts to strong stakes and so tensioning the fence. I had the notion that disconnecting the bottom two wires would be a good idea!. Any thoughts lads?

We wouldn't cut any strands, we use the plastic stakes with wire holders at various stages and get the bottom electrified strand of wire as high off the ground as possible and use tent pegs between the posts to pin the very bottom strand down. We can have as many as 6 posts if the ground is uneven between the main stakes the netting comes with. We have wooden stakes on the corners to tie the fence posts to to give it some tension.
Not an expert but hope there is some useful information in there somewhere.
