|
|
Hello .. me again .. sorry ..
Would any of you kind people help me out sexing the first batch of chicks ?
I believe this one is a hen, and has lovely purple/green feathers:
Looks like a male to me, he has a very red comb (pea, strawberry or walnut comb, not sure), and nice little wattle.
The vultur, female I think as comb pale and no wattle.
Then, I believe the middle one is a rooster, the one on the right a hen, and the left one unsure .. has a smallish comb (walnut or something), and a bit reddish but nothing compare to the other, any ideas ?
Thanks !
Camile

They are all some heinz 57 sort of ..
The top one seems like RIR x Naked neck
2nd would be RIR (or Ancona) x Naked neck
3rd is naked neck x RIR
white one are (Orp x LS) x Heinz 57 rooster (RIR x LS x XXXX) .. and one of them seems to have some naked neck due to the comb ..
so it's a real mix and match thing .. |

you can card them - but I can't remember which one is male or female - if you take a bit of card and slip it under the feathers on the chest, and compare them, one is pointy shaped and one is rounded - you could try on adults first to check which is which.
or, you can squeeze the relevant hole and if there's something to pop out it will do, but I don't like doing that as I've read it can be harmful to them. not sure if that's right, but read it somewhere.
or you could place an open bar of chocolate biscuits on a plate and offfer it round, see which ones attack it? _________________ manure happens |

How old are they?
It's hard to say. I find comb, stoutness of the legs, and pointy neck hackle feathers are a good guide but last year I had one Orpington who fooled me until Week 18!
In the bottom batch I'd say:
[adult] [hidden] [possible male] [male] [female]

Hello again ..
there are 18 weeks old if I counted well ... they were born on the 29th of November ..
for the group picture .. the ones on the far left are my silky duo (well rooster seems a cross due to the comb). |
