A ditch which runs through a field of sheep is overgrown with waterweed -- mainly grass , mint and fools cress . I am planning to throw it in with the pigs when I clear it out but wonder if there is a particularly serious risk of giving them fluke in this way . The pigs free range in that field so they are already exposed . It is the possible concentration of the parasite which concerns me .

The response I got was from a contributor named bexta over on the RC forum, as follows : " Only ruminants can have liver fluke, pigs cannot have it , i dont know why but thats what they told me in meetings and college, but i have heard only on really extreme cases pigs can have it but only if they eat it in the adult fluke stage" .
I think I need to go back on this one . It initially sounded like the answer but on reflection pigs are natural omnivors , as are humans , and I have been warned that we can get it easily enough ( eg from wild watercress ) . |

A word of caution Blowin. Humans can get exactly the same liver fluke as do stock. Like from dodgy watercress. As we are of course not ruminants, the stated ruminants only cannot be relied apon.
