Didnt even realise they existed. Has anybody ever heard of these burners. Supposedly very cheap to run, and the raw seed is what you feed into the burner like wood pellets.

Have to admit that I have never heard of them but don't think I have seen any rape growing over here either ( Sligo/Mayo )  . The yellow fields in these parts appear to be wild cabbage rather than cash crop . May be some potential ???

The info i have so far is that the burner costs in the region of 6000 euro it comes from germany the oil seed rape comes from the east cost (wicklow). The seed is fed into the burner as you would wood pellets and dosent cost as much. I was surprised that i hadnt heard of it before which makes me wonder

There is a bit of it grown around here in the south east but I guess it wont be cheap to buy, if at all possible. Most will go to bio fuel and Ireland needs to import rape oil to meet its EU commitments. If I had enough tillage land I would grow it myself and use it to run my vehicals. Grain burners have been around for sometime but they are not without their own problems. Burning is the easy part me thinks.

Would you try making biodiesel from waste veg oil ? There is a man in Lismore making biodiesel from WVO I think his name is Jim (memory failing),I have been down to Lismore twice and i would recommend anyone to take a trip down there ,he has his own website .He runs a Riello oil burner on his biodiesel to heat his home aswell as his own car and has designed a cheap reactor which you can build yourself or he can build it for you.                   http://imakebiodiesel.com/

This looks interesting. I will get the CD and see whats what. The lads on the "Its not easy being green" web site have been doing this for a while. They even declare it and pay the tax Confused  Confused . I think that the first thing to do is go down the local chippy and see if I can get the waste oil.

The most interesting innovation he has is an Alaska Military Heater which is used to heat his workshop, worth the  trip alone to see it.If you are old enough to remember MASH they were used to heat military tents,Ibought one on ebay and it burned waste engine oil cleanly(just an experiment). He uses the yellow grease found at the bottom of his waste veg oil which also burns cleanly. Here is a link for the heater. They burn anything from petrol, diesel, kero to used motor oil and grease. Here is a link                                                                                                                                                                                          http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALASKA-HEATER-ALASKA-STOVE-OIL-HEATER-SPACE-HEATER-TENT_W0QQitemZ170195159970QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item170195159970&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177
