was anyone at Ballinasloe this year for the horse fair, any idea of prices? on the first sunday people seemed to be still asking big money but it looked like little had shifted by the end of the day. down the traveller end some lads said that the trotters were still holding well but they weren't shifting any heavies.

anyone have any examples of prices from later in the week? we have 2 to feed for the winter it would be nice to think that they were at least  worth the price of the hay

The prices were very high and nothing sold at all. They were asking just too much, having some to sell myself, they are barely worth the stud fee it seems. A bit sickening, especially facing into another winter of expense. What types are you selling?

I have 2 cob foals to be sold. One a black colt the other a skewbald filly - both look well made but I think they'll be hard to shift for any money at all.
A mate who breeds draughts was at Ballinasloe selling 2 nice filly foals - the best offer he got all day was just 300. - which would'nt cover the stud or anything else.
I'm just glad I made the decision not to get my mares back in foal again this year.
