For want of anything better to do I was about to follow up on the automated response I got ( copy on prev page ) but now I read it properly it simply adds insult to injury .
...." In this instance it would appear that you are experiencing a technical difficulty with your dial-up Internet connection. " ...
What other sort of difficulty is it likely to be ? Hardly psychological is it ? I don't need to pay by the minute for tech support to tell me that . All I want to know is when are they going to fix it , and can I have some money back please .
So , moving on , I thought I'd mention the junkmail leaflet which has just been delivered at great inconvenience to me and the postman and the dog . The dog had to get up to chase the man and I had to drop what I was doing to intervene . Anyway , it advertises 8 separate Eircom packages , with each one detailed in a colourful box . One is printed white-out-of-orange , another is light orange on pale yellow ie it is virtually impossible to read . That is a pretty basic mistake for anyone involved in publishing to make so the Marketing dept don't know what they are doing either ?
But I won't go on about that because this tale has taken a funny turn . More specifically , Eircom have said that I settled my a/c and ceased all activity thru their company over a year ago . I don't owe them a cent but they cannot assist me in any way because I no longer exist . I should refer to the alternative provider .
I had already done that -- they referred me to Eircom in the first place -- but I went back to them anyway . They have no record of the hours I spend on Eircom net , either . Their records show me making numerous calls to a server number I don't recognise but they are all of such short duration ( seconds ) they only add up to a few cents a month .
As far as I am aware I am on the normal Eircom flat-rate package dial-up number every time I come on here rabbiting on for hours .
So I really haven't a clue what is going on |

A tale of woe indeed mate. Perhaps it would cheer you up a bit if I tell you that after my gloating Post about getting broadband, I am now informed that I cant have it They had a glitch in their line checking system that gave me the thumbs up . So now I am back with the 36 kbps lads Ten minutes walk down the road and I am in a broadband area. Yesterday I got a circular encouraging me to "Bundle and Save"!!!! _________________ Leave not a trace. |

Very sorry to hear that . I imagine that you would want half-way decent communications for your new enterprise . Doesn't anyone who can influence matters realise that broadband is an essential business tool these days ?
You'd think that organisations like LEADER who hand out money for rural regeneration would have something to say . I wonder if there is a public pressure group ?
On a personal level I really don't know what to do . It appears that I am getting my dial-up service for free . It must come from one of two providers but they have both stated that it is nothing to do with them . Since it is worth about 30 euro a month I am inclined to say no more about it . BUT the service is cr*p and they won't do anything about it until I can convince them that I am one of their customers .
More to the point I don't want them to find their error and hit me with a massive bill at some time in the future . Would they be able to do that ? |

Good plan . That has already been done , altho' not by design . Whoever is supposed to co-ordinate the cold-callers is obviously an incompetant too because Eircom reps phone me on a regular basis --- to sell me broadband of course . Every time I say yes please they check the line then say it isn't up to it and "no" they don't know when it will be . Eventually one of them had the decency to ask around her office then tell me that the best thing I can do is contact a provider of wireless telecoms . I know she was new to the job and I suspect she will have been fired by now , more's the pity .
I also know I will get nowhere on this so tomorrow I am going to take the chainsaw to a telegraph pole which is an eye-sore where they put it . That might attract someone's attention .
It's ok , that isn't quite as macho or reckless as it sounds . We don't advocate breaking the law on this forum . The pole is redundant and it is on my own property . I will convert it to a non-existant support for my non-existent line .
Is this weather driving anyone else nuts ? _________________ we need more people to say something . |

Well I don't know what happened there but late one night my internet connection cut off and it took 10 days to get back online .
Then I got the retrospective bill I had feared would be the outcome of all of this .
Except that the bill was based on pay-as-you-go dial-up rather than the package I thought I should still have been paying for .
I won't list all the detail but a couple of points which might be of wider interest if you have a similar problem :
Eircom the phone people at eircom. com seem to have absolutely no knowledge of your internet activity , which goes thru eircom. net
I tried the servers at Perlico and Newtel and both of them consistently broke the connection immediately after responding to the dial ie they were even worse than eircom , if that were possible . I didn't contact Perlico but Newtel actually told me not to waste my time unless I go to broadband , which they cannot provide .
So , I am an eircom NET customer again altho I have no idea how I got locked out or how my mate got me back in .
This has suddenly become very boring , hasn't it !
