Thankyou for that insight . So there really is no hope then !
Wow -- serendipity again --- I have just seen a bar graph with 58.6kbs march across my monitor for maybe 20 secs . It has now dropped back to 28ish but does that mean they can do it all the time if they really want to ? Or has everyone else just switched off in frustration ?

I have just tried to get into that link to the support desk . The main page is quite pretty , with graphics and links and stuff . . As a consequence it took feckin ages to get in . More time and money wasted but never mind , I can now click on the link to the place I have to go to find out about " dial-up" .
And after a few minutes .................
I get this : " Knowledge server is not responding. Please try later. " |

we recently moved house, as i was not advised that i would have to tell the internet dept of eircom of the move, i was advised that the internet would just stay the same 150 hours anytime because we kept our phone number, i month later phone bill for 169 euro dialed 1901 billing enquiry then was told i should have infromed internet dept i was being charged everytime i connected etc, also my weekend talktime package had gone, told to dial 1530 277 100 and just give them my new eircom account number and it would all be sorted simple change of account number one would think,
i reckon this number took me to india as the bloke on the other end of the phone had no idea how to change my account number plus he sounded foreign, and it appeared to me he had no idea what he was doing he asked me if i had a dial up internet fault, I SHOULD SAY SO any how he passed me onto another indian who was able to cancel original internet account and start a new one finally some one who understood and knew what to do at last
If this problem is not sorted in my next phone bill eircom will be getting a bill from me for phoning that 1530 number at 33 cents a minute plus cost of writing the letter and the inconvenience
have eircom internet dept emigrated to india or was i just unlucky and got a trainee _________________ The Magic Seeder Makes Seed Sowing Simple 20% discount to members of this forum

Based on my own experience I'd say you were lucky to get anyone !
It is a good point about the cost to you , tho' .
So , the costs to the customer include :
The value of his own time .
Cost of contacting support.
Loss of service you still have to pay for ( downtime ) .
??? A set minimum charge for each time the connection breaks immediately after it connects ???
I am sure there are others , and most of them are quantifiable .
I wonder whether anyone has seriously tried to test this in court ? I note that major banks in the uk have been told to refund a fortune in overcharges which most of us just accepted . Is there an Ombudsman , or similar ?
I will see where Eircom point me , if I can stay online long enough to find out . |
