About a year ago I started building a website about the wildflowers to be found in Ireland as I couldn't find much illustrated info on the web about them. Its turning into a bit of an obsession and I'm hoping to include a section on trees by spring.....
www.irishwildflowers.ie
Hi admin - would it be possible to create a section somewhere for posting wildflower pics and asking for id help?
I'd be really interested to know what other people are coming across in different parts of the country, native, introduced and garden escapes gone wild. Also if anyone has photos of plants growing wild they can't identify I'll do my best to help out with an id or suggestions.

Great site Gardener,
Admin, I would suggest to not have it as a subsection of the forum, but for it to have it's own main menu to bring it up a fair bit ?
It could be a selling point for the site .... and is there a chance to include in the nature's bounty ? with also infos on how to save seeds and propagate them.
Thanks,
Camile |

Sorry camile , I had already made the mod before I saw your recommendation and it is a bit tricky to change it back .
I was just wondering how gardener got on in the nominations ?? _________________ we need more people to say something . |

Hi folks, thanks for the votes, the site didn't get short-listed but it was good to have been nominated and get a bit more visibility.
I'm still trying to sort my way through wodges of flower photos from earlier this year, and I seriously need some better sort of photo filing system......
Is anyone here using Adobe Lightroom and got any feedback on it? |

Hi Gardener, I am using the trial version of Lightroom. It is very handy for doing quick adjustments and as a filing system but any major work has to be done with Photoshop. It is excellent for batch adjustments and for burnable slide shows in PDF format.
You might be able to justify the purchase cost but I might wait for "a loan" of a copy.

Fabulous effort, Gardener.
A really useful reference source.
Many moons ago, I got a botany degree and some of it has stuck, but I still find identification of some plants difficult and like to see pictures I can compare my specimens with.
I'm still not convinced about my identification of an orchid on our meadow. I'll find a pic and post it here for your thoughts. |

Hi Graney and thanks for the good comments about the website - I wish I had a Botany degree - it might help me better understand the terms some reference books use in descriptions!
That was a lot of the reason for starting the site, to provide pictures as well as descriptions as book illustrations aren't always as helpful as they could be.
Looking forward to seeing your orchid picture, but if its a Spotted or Marsh Orchid they've a habit of hybridising like crazy which can make definite ids near on impossible........ |

And thanks too Quarryman for the feedback on Lightroom. Can't find the cash for it at the moment so will wait hopefully for a passing friend with a copy...... |

Sorry Gardener .... completely overlooked to post the picture I referred to. Here it is.
I suspect, as you suggest, it might be a marsh orchid hybrid.
Click on the pic to see it larger.
