I think the best of all worlds would be to keep changing the nest box bedding and use a brush to remover any dried dirt. Ducks are dirty things and their eggs are always messy. I would brush these and like you say Chook, wash them just before you are going to use them. The natural grease that covers duck eggs washes out easyley and can be felt in your hands when you are doing the job. In the old days the eggs where greased to preserve them. They would keep for many weeks like this.

A tip given to me the other day ( thanks ) - fresh eggs can be frozen but you must whisk them before freezing if you intend to use them for baking .
I wasn't sure why this should be but having just defrosted some whole ones I was surprised to find that the white was very runny but the yolks were very firm -- as if hard boiled . |

I find that they are quite capable of doing it themselves _________________ Leave not a trace. |

This site gives some quite interesting information about eggs . It is along the lines of a technical spec for grading eggs for retail but it also covers some of the oddities you come across , eg blotched shell etc
