we (or rather himself) haggled the price down in there, as the only big one they had needed some attention. In ten minutes he'd fixed it once we got it home, but at the time he just kept saying it wasn't right until the halved the price...

Hello,
Them kennels looks perfect ..
I was checking on the web and found this:
http://www.gumtree.ie/dublin/05/8036505.html
Good size for maybe 4/5 hens, you just need to install a roost, a door, and some sort of nestbox and happy days !

some people say so ..
That's what I use with mine and I still have to see any problems with it ..
red mites would go into the cracks of the wood, under the roosts and all / |

his first eegs should convince him
as for red mite i use disinfectant and just paint in on where the roost tuches the houes.it kills the mites as they try to get to the birds, but means as its not to close to the birds the eegs are still safe to eat. |

Ok I found a way to convince him. He likes duck eggs, so I bought some in Tesco (bear with me, its a tactic). I cooked them for breakfast this morning and he complained that they were very small and tastless, not like a REAL duck egg. So I said that we could get ducks ASWELL AS hens and he could have perfect duck eggs for his breakfast. And he said that that sounded like A GOOD IDEA .
So.... next questions (yes I have a lot) can ducks and hens live together, do I need seperate living quarters and/or seperate runs. I know someone who has both but she has a big farm and they sort of live in the yard and barn together, no hen/duck house as such. _________________ www.freewebs.com/paisti Knitwear for Children |

they'll need different houses, but can use the same run if it's big enough. (Mind you, I am a big believer in loads of space for poultry...)
ducks sleep on the floor of the house, and hens perch. (except my hens, who sleep in the straw and have no intention of using the nice perching poles Himself put in for them.) If you put them in together the ducks will get pooed on by the hens. Khaki campbells are the easiest laying ducks to get, and have lots of personality.
