trout jumping

When brown trout jump right out of the water are they trying to take flies in mid-air , or have they just been over-energetic when trying to take something off the surface of the water ? Rolling Eyes

They do take flies out of mid air. I had one jump for my fly before it hit the water. Missed it though Crying or Very sad

You missed the fish or it missed the fly ? Laughing
You've got to be right --- on some evenings the majority of rises take the fish well out of the water whereas on others it is the other way round .
That is good news -- I might at least catch something on one of the many flies I have left hanging in trees ! Laughing

Yep. I know what you mean. I am going to have a go at the two dropper rig. Seems a good idea to have a sinker and a dry fly as a bit detector.
