The music to be played at your own funeralThis is not intended to be a morbid topic but I guess we should all consider it sometime .
A mate of mine went for some fairly conventional sounds to suit all-comers during the ceremony followed by “ Walk on the Wild Side” ( Lou Reed) as the coffin was carried out . I am not easily moved to tears but that sure enough did it – 30 years ago but I still remember.
I wonder where he is now .
What would you choose to be remembered by ?

It has to be, When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease.

I don't know that one . Who was it by ?
I would suggest that anything to do with cricket would bore the whole audience to death anyway . Well , at least we would all be in the same boat
What is the current fare for a brief trip over the river Styx , given the falling exchange rates ?

I had to make a choice for my wife when she died six years ago.
I chose Time in a bottle by Jim Croce.

Still can't hear it without shedding a little tear
For myself I'd probably go for Wasn't born to follow by The Byrds

Graney -- I am very sorry to have have touched on a topic which is so close to you . My sympathies and thankyou for your response .
Camile -- it is illegal to be thrown under the compost heap ( not that any of us in that position would be easily contacted by the authorities who might be seeking to serve a summons ) . Trouble is they would go for the next of kin or who-ever had dug the hole , I think .
Pollution of nearby waterways would be a major issue and I have to admit that I have some sympathy with that argument .
I do have a genuine interest in the possibility of "green" burial , tho , provided that it would not present a hazard to anyone or anything else so this is a fairly serious topic .
Since such a hole would be dug in unconsecrated ground I suspect that this thread might upset more than a few . If that is the case I will apologise in advance and ask them to open their minds to an alternative view . After all it is my own problem if I can never get to Heaven . I don't think I would qualify anyway !
I doubt we could find space for burial in a local cemetry and I would not want to bankrupt my family for the sake of being cremated in Dublin .

Everytime I hear a really great song I tell my boyfriend that I want it played at my funeral - its going to be a concert at this stage!!!
Some of the songs include:
Frank Sinatra - My Way
Sarah MacLuaghlin (?) - Angel
???? - a mixture of Somehere Over the Rainbow and Wonderful World
Queen - Dont Stop Me Now - get everyone rockin...!!!!
I told my boyfriend I want my funeral to be a celebration of my life
rather than a morbid affair. And no one is allowed to wear black!
He is an athiest so defo does not want to be buried in a graveyard. Wants to be buried under a tree...
Would be very interesting to find out what options ,if any, are available if no graveyard or cremation. Interesting?

I hope to be cremated, when the time comes, and have come up with a plan that after we have the ceremony in the garden, a friend of mine will then pack the ashes into a large paper bag which will then be wrapped around a large firework rocket. This would be brought to the beach and launched.
Hopefully the wind will be in the right direction.

It wouldn't matter to me what colour the coffin was.

I was reminded the other day, while at my 90 year old Uncle George's funeral, that funerals are for the living.

Hello,
I would have thought that not having any coffins would be the green way to do it ..
just an old big cardboard or a few smaller ones with a bit of hemp twine would have done a neat job ..
as for funerals are for the living .. being young and lucky enough not to have encounter many of those .. it does makes sense that they are ...
