I have never managed to find St George's in this area . As you probably know they favour the margin between short pasture and deciduous woodland . The fields around me are mostly long scutch & rushes bordered by forestry pine !
I have never managed to find Morels anywhere !! --- Much to my frustration . Plenty of False Morel / Helvella , tho' , so novices should take all the usual precautions with their identification . I'd like to try impregnating some of the conifer stumps in the now flattened forest . I have seen ads for fungi which will break down the wood quite quickly and are supposed to be edible too . I don't know why I have my doubts about that claim  . Has anyone tried this type of thing ? I will check out the specific name(s) if this thread looks like going any further .
Nice Hegehog Fungi in the forest last year . One of the better edibles IMHO . Have you tried those ? |
