Rye

We sow Rye as a winter green manure, gives a bite to the animals in spring and keeps the soil in good condition...

Anyway, this year my pigs ain't ready to go yet...I reckon they have another 2 weeks on the patch that i want to sow with winter rye...

The question is, will the 3rd week in october be too late to sow rye? Would i be better off covering the whole area with farmyard manure and waiting till spring? I've definitely sowed rye at beginning of Oct with great success...much better than leaving the ground bare during our soggy winters.

Might just finish the pigs for last 2 weeks on concrete
