what is the best air riffle for feather.

As far as springers go my experience is a weihrauch ,mine is a HW 35.A .22 rimfire is a far better gun for the job.Fitted with a good suppressor using good quality subsonic ammo,accurate and far more powerful.An air Rifle is good for clearing feral pigeons from sheds etc.

My personal prefrance for birds would be a 177 caliber, for fur it would be 22. They both produce the same power but with differant caracteristics. 177 are faster, have a flater projection and greater penetration. Birds feathers overlap and can be a bit "bullet proof" 22 are slower, greater projection but has greater kinetic energy stored.
However, both will kill fur and feather very eficientley as long as you place the pellet where you are aiming at no more than 30 yards. That is if you are using an air rifle producing 12 foot/pound power. Distance can be increased with greater foot/pound. I prefare 12foot/pound as they can be used safely inside barns, shed etc. Reducing any problems with ricochets from penetration and making holes in roofs. A 22 rimfire is used in preferance to a high velocity air rifle. There is a greater choice in ammo to suit the job.
A sound moderator can be fitted to air rifles. This i find can be an aid to accuracy. Recoil is quite harsh. It goes two ways as oposed to firearms one way recoil. I find they dampen the lift at the barrel.
As for make, it is very personal. I like BSA. You need to find one that suits yourself. Size, weight, lengh etc.

thank for the advice,i use a bsa lighting xl 22 cal great for rabbits , if i had the money, i would go for a weihrauh .they make some top riffles.i did not no177 caliber would be faster,so i am on the look out for a bsa lightingxl 177 cal,can not fault the bsa,what other riffles have you used.

Mostly BSA. They suit me just fine. I borowed a weirac, but found it to heavy to carry all day.
My current one, an old supersport custom has never let me down. It has a Theoben gas ram fitted. So it can be left cocked for a long time without loss of power. It delivers consistant velocitys as well. So accuracy is spot on.
High velocity rifle, hard to beat a BRNO. years of sterling service.

Agree that the weirauch is heavy but bang a new spring and seal in every year and you will find it hard to beat for accuracy ,the only fault i have with the cz452 is it has a heavy triggger compared to the weirauch.Pellet choice is a bit of a mine field but for rimfire sub's i go for winchester or Eley

I was told that you need to get a full forearms cert in order to legally posses any sort of air rifle in the ROI . Is that correct ?

Yes thats correct an air fifle is legally the same as a .22 rimfire
