protected speciesThere is an interesting thread on another forum about the pros and cons of letting pigs loose in an established bluebell wood . I will start a separate topic on that under "pigs" .
Someone on that thread suggested that " you may want to contact your local wildlife trust to see if they have any records of rare species growing in your woodland " .
Sound advice , I am sure , but it may have unforseen consequences . I know of someone who called the botanists in when she was concerned that a large area of forestry / woodland around her was due to be cleared . They found a number of protected species growing there and put a protection order on the whole area . That suited her very well but it might have been a different matter if she had planned to do anything with the land herself .
I don't know whether the restriction would apply to animals in addition to clearance / development .
Please do not misunderstand me -- I am certainly not advocating interference with rare or protected species . I am just pointing out that the subject could open Pandora's Box .
