I hope not and I doubt if it could be baned from the farming fraternity. Are we supposed to use our teeth to cut the baler twine?. Perhaps they could put a ban on carrying them in a public place without good reason, but the problem is the mind set of person carrying the knife. How many of you were in the BOY scouts? and his sheath knife was a tool as well as his pride and joy. Even at the age of ten!. Whats gone wrong?

A few years back i retrained as a tree surgeon. Two esential tools of my trade is the Silky saw and a knife. The Silky is a ferocious looking hand pull saw. Its about 30cm long with a curved blade. It lives on my climbing harness. The knife has to be carried at all times incase i need to cut my rope for rescue purposes. It has a blade about 7 cm long with 4cm being serated. It also has a locking blade due to the nature of its use. This lives in my chainsaw trousers deliberatly on full view. Should any one else need to cut my rope they will find it easily as my ropes are designed not to cut too easily.(Gravity and all that) The newly formed plastic police in uk could rareley distinguish between justified carrying and thug missuse. They would gather (they would go round in gangs) round the chain saws and demand to know why we are carrying knifes in public. We got some miles out of this. Hopefully common sense will prevaile!

If common sense was used a lot more in cases like this, we wouldn't be in this situation, but when you get conkers and yo yo's being banned in school playgrounds because their dangerous what chance have you got with a penknife.
