planting soft fruit - which orientation ? N/S or E/W ?If you were going to plant several new rows of soft fruit ( say, raspberries ) in an open field , in which direction would you align the rows ?
The prevailing wind is from the West but we do occasionally get strong Northerlies coming down the valley .
The area will be in full sun , whichever way it points .

I would plant the rows E W and plant a shelter belt to the north. Some fast growing trees like Poplar perhaps.
