newts help to heal burns

Licking the belly of a "lizard" will give you the power to heal burns .
An Irish friend who is definitely not prone to superstition tells me he heard this when he was 9 or 10 and did indeed lick the belly of a "lizard" which in this case was a newt . Since then there have been at least 3 occasions when he has had to apply saliva to serious burns in order to clean them . They healed within a matter of days . One of the casualties confirmed this to me personally but kept on adding that there really must be some explanation ......

Better add that I am not at all sure that it is advisable to treat burns in that way .

I have never licked a newt but did try toads in my earlier years Cool Cool . I think that we live a much richer life if such old folks tails are left alone by science. In my personal opinion such as it is, is that having complete belief in a "Thing", will make a "Thing" work. If you`s catchies me drift. Wink

I couldn't agree more and I wouldn't want to change that but I find it fascinating to explore the boundaries between things that work in their own right ( ie independently of a supportive belief system ) and those that don't . This doesn't mean that the " dont's " are rubbish . I believe in a few of them myself ! Wink

Nicely put, wayland. The inexplicable is surprisingly explicable by the scientific types, so it's best to not let them near such superstitions if they aren't a bother Wink .

My mother has suffered from panic attacks for a long time. She nows swears by Rescue Remedy and carries it at all times. She doesnt need it as much now, but my Dad says its all in her head, how could these drops stop a major panic attack. She said she doesnt care if its all in her head, that thats were the panic starts anyway, and if it works does it matter if its phsyiological or psychological once it works.

By the way, I find rescue remedy brillant for hiccups. Take one application and then another 5 minutes later and they go...it might be just in my head but it worked on my husband a toatl non believer and he was very surprised (he only took it to appease me)
