Sorry about the mushrooms tho' ! ( I sent Camile half way up a mountain to pick a couple of lovely speciments of Field ... rocks , as it turned out )
The fishing is still very odd . Hardly any Macs off the usual inshore marks but very dense shoals just under the boat in deep water ( 100 ft ) . Got a lot of unusual "knocks" which I thought was sandeel or something too small to be caught but it may literally have been the weight bouncing off fish on the way thru' the shoal because an uncommonly high percentage were foul hooked . All were small fish ( 9" ) .
A gannet sat on the cabin roof for a while .... until I swung the next string of macks over the side - then it hopped off , grabbed the fish off the top hook as it was passing and took to the skies .
Pollack were fickle too , and hard to find . Several of those were also foul hooked and that rarely happens .
Lug worm turned out to be a real killer for Red Gurnard but they were a bit small too so were returned alive .
Had to run in a bit quick due to imminent gale warning and the water turning really "snotty" as the steve the kipper calls it for some reason . Caught a feckin lobster pot ( rope around the propeller ) which made it a bit interesting then the bay were we moor was too choppy risk 2 of us in the dingy at the same time (from boat to shore ) .
So ....
One rowed in with the end of the fishing line tied to the dingy , then the one on the boat reeled it back out , empty , so he could return ! We could really be a force to be reckoned with if we used our brains a bit more often !
Then I had a real "oh feck" moment when the front wheel of the jeep locked up and smelly white smoke came billowing out of the bonnet at 10.30pm Fri night in the middle of nowhere .
So , Camile , I am glad you enjoyed those fish ! You can catch your own next time !
