It's show timeIt's our local show in just over a week's time.
We went along last year and took an interest in what was going on and before we knew what was happening, we were on the committee.
We've got classes for jams and cakes, veg, flowers, handicrafts, children - what they make, not the children themselves, you understand - although we do have a bonny baby contest. And outside we've got chooks, dogs, small furry pets, and horses.
I'm defending the cup I won last year for my collection of five vegetables and Mrs G is trying to step up from second most successful handicrafts exhibitor to first.
And Buster our rescue dog is bound to win the most appealing dog class.
We think these events are great fun and what rural living are all about. Anyone else involved in their local show?

I like this sort of stuff too. Providing its not too big an event. My good lady won many a prise for her knitting etc. I got a first for me honey but as I was the only contributed !!!. Things like the longest parsnip always produced an argument between the winner with his fifteen feet long boot lace and a eighteen inch giant that would feed half the neighbourhood. Great laugh.

Hit the nail on the head there - don't take it too seriously, although it's always nice to win something! I've won cups and certificates etc over the years, but not doing any this year, too much else going on. Would like to get back into it next year, though, and try the County Show.

We've got a longest runner bean class.
I've been talking to mine but they seem to be taking the view that length isn't everything

A tip about the longest runner bean. Pick off all the young beans on a plant except the best one. pinch out the top bud and water well. This was told me by a local expert. I would rather have more beans for he table so have never tried it. Good Luck. The County show sound a bit ambitious MrsL. Good luck with it.

Good to have a bit of ambition, though. I just like to prove to myself I can do it Time will tell!
