is this site full of anti establishment anti rat race bods ?Someone who shall remain nameless raised this question in another thread . Seems worthy of discussion
|

I am not sure what prompted that question . This forum was set up to create a usefull network of friendly people who have an interest in doing their own thing over here in Ireland where the rules , techniques , customs etc may require a rather different approach than you would find recommended on a UK based "self-sufficiency" sort of forum . There is no collective agenda other than that . But perhaps we have been taken over
I know that our membership includes characters ranging from prison warden to those who are actively trying to avoid members of that occupation ! From animal rights activists to those who would set a dog on wild bunnies . Each to his own . Let healthy debate continue .

Now that I am out of the rat race I wouldn't go back to it ( and they wouldn't have me back anyway ) BUT I could not have afforded to be where I am now unless I had spent all those years in a job which didn't contribute anything to the meaning of life but did pay the mortgage .
With the benefit of hindsight what do you advise your kids to do ? Go for happiness in relative poverty right from the start or get off their backsides and graft for a while then go for happiness in a little less poverty ? That is a tricky question .
As for the establishment , it is necessary unless we join a tribe with a lot of guns or an unlimited supply of happy pills . But as for the self-serving hypocritical gits who occupy much of the establishment .... that is a different question

i only asked question to see how many live bods out there using site not to start web war

No I think we should have a good "discussion".
Anyone who, by their own choice, moved away from cities, large towns etc. and bought themselves a "bit" of land to grow their own and keep animals must be having a bit of the two fingers towards "society". Myself, I got tired of being in "the rat race", a mortgage slave and no quality of life. We had lots of money but little else.
I would never go back.

No worries . No chance of starting war on this forum because Admin will nuke all protagonists
Very interesting if that was your genuine reason for asking the question , and I hasten to add that I don't intend to imply any doubt about that .
I am sure that all of our registered members are real people but cannot tell how many of the visitors are . Yesterday Admin opened up most of the forums to "public" status so anyone ( or intruder ) can post as a guest --- as you have obviously noticed . --- if we get swamped with spam we'll have the answer
If you were coming from the other angle --- to see how many of the members are actually active and are prepared to say something if cajoled or goaded enough then all strength to your elbow . I am b*ggered if I can get the silent ones to do so . Perhaps they will comment on my language !
You obviosly have an interest in this subject . Do you have your own site by any chance ?

I think that the Irish people, especially the farmers, have taken and taken since the very start so I think it's time to bend over and..........
Any ideas what would happen to this morally and financially bankrupt country if we left the EU.
Oh and since when did we live in a Democracy?

Democracy my arse.
Quarryman that could of been me talking, farmers can't make a living on the prices they are paid,so do away with the handouts and charge a more realistic price for meat, milk and all the rest of subsidized foods.

Yes it's ridiculous. Farmers are practically public owned. If we don't tow the line the payments will stop and because you're not paid enough for you're produce you rely on the payments. They say around here that if you have to go 'into the cheque' (as you might have to do in winter for feed) you might as well pack it in - for what else I don't know. We're no longer subsidised to keep stock, just on the stocking levels we had nearly ten years ago. But still the government here hands out millions in grants for slatted houses that will never be filled.
Instead of encouraging EU farmers to produce the food stocking supermarket shelves the European commission, our federal government by another name, actively encourages imports from outside. Cheap beef from Brazil, cheap lamb from New Zealand and cherpy cheap chicken from Thailand. In my opinion, the only group that can possibly gain from this arrangement are supermarket giants who have been allowed to monopolise and dictate policy to the entire food service sector.

The supermarket giants certainly but also the beef buyers and factories. I am not saying for one minute that THE BEEF MAGNATES ARE RUNNING A CARTEL but it all seems a bit of a coincidence that the rock bottom prices are similar across the board.
The likes of Larry Goodman are not known for their charitable works but for their bending to the very extreme of all the regulations both here and in Europe. If anyone wants to know what Larry Goodman is capable of, please pm me and I will reply off forum.

Ireland's Rich List....
Goodman’s Co Louth-based £235m Irish Food Processors is Europe’s biggest beef processor. He has invested the profits buying a stake in the Goldman Sachs Fleet Street building in London, and has other property worth more than £20m. Goodman, 68, has a stake in a private £70m hospital and, with £345,440 last year, is Ireland’s largest recipient of farm subsidies.
Personal assets worth €379m

That's well known, we had a few problems during the retention period thing and vainly appealed our single payment allocation many years after.
A lad from Teagasc told me that's nothing - during the (retention) years that the single payment allocation was supposedly being decided upon there was a fucking enormous quota buyout - not by farmers - by tanglers, knacks and the likes of Mr. G. for quota - it sent them sky high - only someone from within government could have known that the single payment would have been decided on the amount of quota held within those (retention) years.
We are all being swindle.......

I for one moved over here to get away from the rat race and the thieving little toe rags that you get in some places in the UK, We had a spate of attemted breakins on my shed i caught them once and the never ran so b****y quick in their life, after that i had the air rifle ready in the bedroom as our bedrroom was at the back, and i would have shot one up the a***e unfortunately they never came back ,
And then we moved here out into the sticks, would i go back to the UK to live in a word, never, why go back we now have a nice quite simple life out in the sticks. no poluuted air from car fumes and factories, (trust me you can tell the difference in air quality) no council tax, no water rates, and best of all no thieving little toe rags. Apologies if i have upset anyone but its a free country and free speech and all that

I would agree totally with the air quality, apart from when slurry is being spread. There is even a major difference in air quality between East Coast and West Coast.
As for "thieving toe rags", we have our fair share here but at least Bertie is no longer Taoiseach and the rest won't win the next election.....

Now , I am wondering whether it would be better for the forum's survival whether we are to be perceived as a bunch of anti establishment independent thinkers who have the balls to step out of the box in some small way .( Or out of the frying pan into the fire in some cases ).
Or should we toe the pc line ?
Needs another poll , perhaps , but I really can't be bothered to set one up

I am the benign dictator on this site . Are you questioning me ?

Admin, we bow to your superior intellect and would never question you...... to your face. This is how it all starts with power mad dictators. They think they have a direct line to God. You know, that Christian God, the Three Gods in one, multiple personality, has discussions with him/herself.....
I think we should have a new poll
Is Admin a benign dictator or is he The Anti Christ made mortal....?

Coming late to the discussion here, as per usual I'd like to think the forum *is* full of such people. I'm well on the way myself; the older I get, the further down the road I travel, and the faster I'm getting there.
"Normal" life sucks, for want of a better expression. Plough your own furrow, beat your own path, don't follow one.

Good to see you back on the forum , Mrs L . What you been up to ? Making and creating all sorts of interesting things if I remember correctly . Perhaps you might give us an update under the "Hello " section if you don't mind correcting my anarchistic attempt to divert this particular thread !!!
