Hi from Tipperary

Well, Im Tringle.and first off all Im thinking not another forum to join, I thought is was just going to be an Irish RC meet up. But sure...just means more internet time. Anyway, I have been an RC forum memebr for quite a while now, though as I havent been regularly posting for about 8 months now many of you wont really know me.

As far as self sufficency and small holding go I am a total fraud, as in I dont have one. I joined RC because of my love for cooking, good food and a huge admiration for HFW and what he was achieving. Yes, it has led me to sourcing ethically produced food and really think about how we eat and were it comes from. I shop at farmers market and local producers but have yet to provide our own food.

We have spent the past five years building our house and finally managed to move into it this Novemeber. It has a large garden ans once the spring arrives and we are less waterlogged I do finally plan on getting a fruit and veg garden going. I also plan on getting some hens, but am waiting to see will I go back to full time work or not and weather we have minks in our garden-both not very good for hens.

So, I had a craft business for a number of years producing childrens knitwear. I made jumpers and sold them to many Irish craft shops, and many in France, Japan and USA. I still have some stock left (see website). But then I sort off fell into adult education and now work as a contract adult tutor and trainer. But had decided that once we moved I did not want to work full time but try being at home and looking after my family more (like I did when they were little). So, am experimenting at the moment and testing the waters with a lack of personal finance. I am here with a husband and three "finacially and transport" dependent adults, and two cats. (one is crying at the window right now)

Sorry, sometimes I go o a bit. Anyway, nice to see a new Irish forum, yes when referring to Irish things now a big explanation is not necessary. Would love a meet up in the new year, perhaps when we have chatted a bit and kind of know each other. And if you all want to organise a working party in the spring and come and "small hold" my garden you a very welcome to Laughing .

Talk to you soon
Kira

I'm a Tipperary girl as well. Well, it's where I'm from. I'm currently a fraud too, as I'm living in Dublin in my in-laws spare room (rent here is insaaaane). Eventually I'll move back to Tipp. Can't wait Smile

Hi Tringle and Kira. Welcome to our fledgeling site. A bit late for you Tringle with 29 posts. Sorry about that. Tipp is just up the road from us. So we are looking forward to perhaps meeting you guys later this year. Very Happy

Thanks wayland, Hi Kira. I am the opposite of you, I live in Tipp but am from Dublin. We are here 16 years now and are still the new people.
Kira

Ahh, the Dubs are invading Smile

So!. Do the Irish look upon Dubliners as the English look upon Londoners?

Probably, if you mean we see them as "sweeping in with their highbrow ideas and swanky shoes and stealing all our women" :p
jon

Sounds about right for Londoners plus they take up holiday homes and then no one sees them again. Now we have "Downsizers Laughing They downsize to a place that no locals could afford. Laughing Laughing Laughing .
Not too sure that they were ever any good with the woman though.

ROFL how true!
On the plus side, at least they manage to get some mud on their 4x4's, instead of just using them to run the kiddies to soccer practice Smile
