Hi Paddy, hope you finally got some sleep.

Welcome to the forum. How are your veg doing at the moment, mine have just been outrun by the weeds and the slugs.

Though, we are getting a HUGE amount of courgettes

the veg situation.

Half the spuds are gone due to blight and chickens have savaged 50% of lettuce. All else is good.I don,t seem to have a lot of slugs around. Paddy

Hi Paddy. I did not grow any Tates this year but my neighbours have been decimated with the blight. Welcome to the site.

Welcome Paddy. Nice place to have a few acres of land - Howth!!

My veggie patch has become overrun with weeds - combination of weather and work etc...

Spuds this year are doing really well - dont really get blight here. And my chickens are having a great time free ranging in the fields - when the fox doesn't get them!

Hi Paddy,

Welcome ..

what kind of chickens do you have ?

and I love Howth .. I used to live right at the bottom of it, in Sutton, just at the very end of North Bull Island ... you may know it, the house is named Kilbricken, it's a huge black and white house just at the traffic light on the dublin road .. almost beside the nursery home ...

and we had some friends that used to live in the Martello tower right across the sea from us .. and they then moved up the hill in a place called "lyon something" ...

lovely lovely place . . I spent weekends playing golf in deer park ..

and hours watching the seals sunbathing on the sandy strand at the very end of northbull towards howth ...

Hi Camile

Hi Camile,I have some Lite Sussex and a brown leghorn.I will be going to a poultry show on the 1st of September in Naul where I hope to pick up a couple more.I dont know what breed yet I,ll see what takes my fancy.
I can,t say I know the house you lived in but I,ll keep an eye out for it next time I pass.Has it been long since you have left the area? I also knew some people who live in that tower they were a french Couple,I can,t remember there names now but they owned a 1953 landrover which they used as there everyday car. They are gone back to france I think and the Tower was sold and revamped, looks very good.Howth has changed a lot in the last few years, all for the good I think. There is only one farm on the hill still, not to far from the mortello you mentioned.I don,t know of anyone keeping hens apart from myself however from talking to some of my elder neighbours it was really common 20 or so years ago.The part of Howth I live is Upper Cliff Road and has seen very little development due to a protection order.Thank god it has kept most of it,s rural charm that a lot of Howth has lost.Anyhow how does where your living now compare with Sutton?
Camile

hi chamberschics,

it's been 3 years since we left sutton ...

and it's really a small world because the french couple you talk about are very good friends of us .. Yann & Carole should ring a bell for their names ..

indeed we had great fun with the landrover with no electric wipers .. and yann with a huge smile while driving it ...

and indeed they are back to France .. in Crozon .. and we might have met at a party in the tower or something ..

and you live in the nicest part of Howth ... I love howth and we spent weekends golfing up there (but with the cans in the golf bag, no T-Shirt and orange hawaian short !

And I loved sutton but I wouldn't go back anywhere near Dublin or any other cities in the world .. I'm a country boy and will stay there !

Camile
