Help on choosing a polytunnel ..

Good morning,

We finally have the place dug up and all for a polytunnel ..

So we are looking into these ones:
http://www.firsttunnels.co.uk/?gclid=CJrq1K__7IwCFQrnQgod9Vuw7Q

The 14ft Wide (Super) x 25ft

We are planning on getting the Thermal Anti Fog Cover, Super High Sided, Ground Cover, Crop Bars and Anti Hot Spot Tape for sure.

But I'm wonderring if we need the Anchor Plates because digging up a trench and making concrete is not a problem, and if yes, would we need the Base Rail to go with ?

Thanks,
Camile

Hi Camile,
Concreting in the base of the hoops is a very good idea in the west of Ireland. Whether you use base plates or place the hoops directly into concrete can depend on the height you want the tunnel to be. I was lucky enough to have my brother make me an extra tall tunnel which meant I could put all the hoops one and a half feet into a narrow concrete base without having to sacrifice any loss of height. The plates may be a tidier method but also a more costly one. I don't know if this is any help but I love having a tunnel high enough to grow tomatoes along the sides

Hi Spriosan,

Thansk for that ..

I won't bother getting the anchor plates if I have to concrete them in too ..

as for the height, indeed we want as much as possible, that's why we are taking the option of Super High Sided, and it's a straight sided tunnel ...

Here are the height specs, what do you think of it?

Thanks again,

Nice one Camile. Do you keep Cats? If so it would be a good idea to shield the area around the support bars from them. Our cats ruined the cover in a year by climbing up the bars. I here that they still may do this with straight sided tunnels.

Best of luck with it Camille, let us know how it goes
