Growing veg overwinterHello again,
I was just wonderring if I should plant the lettuce seeds and all in the tunnel straight away, or start them off inside and only then moving them ?
and that also applies to any other veg to overwinter ...
because as far as I understood, you can grow lettuce all year around.
Any other veg that I could start off now and get a harvest, or overwinter them for an early harvest next year ?
Thanks,
Camile

Not an expert etc but the ground in there should still be warm enough for direct sowing . We are doing that anyway .
We had a very sharp frost last night and that did damage some young plants last year so some horticultural fleece suspended above them during the night might be a sensible idea .
I know that several members have much more productive tunnels than we do so hopefully they will add a few comments .

Hi Camile. I would start your seeds off inside and then put the seed trays out in your poly tunnel once they have germinated. Once they are big enough to handle <by the leaves only of course> they can be planted in your borders. The soil in the borders will get cold in the winter even though the air temp may well be warm. You could grow your crops on benches which works well but requires a fair bit of work to set up. You could dig a deep trench in your borders and line the bottom with a good layer of fresh manure. The heat from this will keep the roots of your young plants warm. Garlic and Japanese Onions can be planted now in your borders for an early crop. They should do very well in that lovely soil of yours. Good luck mate
