do you see colours in flames ?

This may seem like a trivial question but I am genuinely curious .
I have always seen a range of colours in flames and assumed that this was normal . Recently , tho' , there have been at least 2 occasions when they have been particularly bright so I have commented on them . The people beside me could only see the common orange & blue-tipped effect whereas I was watching sheets of emerald and something close to u/v over and above that .
My eyesight isn't too good but the other observers' was ok so I don't think that is the answer .
This doesn't happen all the time -- must be to do with impurities in the fuel ( definitely not anything I have consumed ) but I see it often enough . How about you ?

So this is a Non-Contentious chat forum! Well the devinition of flames is as old as the hills! What do you see in a candle flame? Wink

I love looking at the colors in flames. Cool even comon peat has good ones. Whats really fun is to put different things in to see what colors you get. Bits of copper are great and so is finding the little melted nuggets when you clean out the fire place. and as its such a thankless task its nice to find little bits of shiny treasure while doing it Wink

My Grandmother would tell us to look at the flames and tell her what we can see. We could see lots but never new the point of it other than a way to keep us quiet Very Happy

That's what I thought .
So why don't many other people see it ? It is very bright and my own eyesight isn't particularly good .

Seems to me that this sort of thing needs to have a plausible scientific explanation or it falls into another category entirely .
This one has an explanation , as you say , so it is just one more unremarkable bit of serendipity .
But I do begin to wonder sometimes .
How many "coincidences" would you consider it normal to come across in one day ?
