coursing

This is what happens when you ban legal coursing.

another superb peice of unenforcable legislation! The law abiding followers of field sports suffer while others do as they please. Sigh. Pity the media dont know the difference between Field Sports and blood sports. I wonder if its a word they deliberatly use for maximising impact on non followers? Double sigh.

Is it just semantics or is there a difference between, Blood sports, field sports, and hunting?. I have never regarded myself as a sportsman in any way shape or form. I just hunt.

I think the phrase blood sports was coined by the anti brigade for obvious reasons, the BBC interviewer was just trying to get some sort of reaction out of the pillock he was talking to.How come they never interview anyone who is articulate and can string a few sentences together that make a reasoned and sensible alternative point of view to the coursing ban.

The differance between Field sports and Blood sports is the way they are conducted. In Field sports the quary has a means of escape. So Coursing (to rules), Stalking, Hunting to Hounds etc would come under Field sports.
Blood sports however, the quary has no way of escape. The 'pit sports'  and 'Bating'were the favourite in there day. The Rat pit  was vey popular in pubs and taverns due to the ease of setting one up. Live rats were tiped into an escape proof enclosure and bets were taken. A Terrier would be put in and timed on how long to kill all the Rats. There was variations of the theme, but the outcome was the same. This Blood sport relied on 'The Rat Catcher'. Rats would fetch up to a penny each in London. In some places the Pest controle oficer is still called the Rat catcher. Bating was similar. Put a Bull or Bear into an enclosure and introduce terriers. Badger bateing was never realy included due to Brock being so powerful. Most of the terriers would be killed in the fight. So stopping any earnings for the owner.  These 'sports were eventually stoped not for the cruelty inflicted to the animals. But to stop the spectators from fighting. Most of Terriers used for fighting were owned by Pugalists. When they were not fighting, there dogs were. Add alchohol to an agresive bloke, let him watch animals kill each other so his Blood boils and, instant arshole!
Illegal coursing (the Hare is caught or bets are off) was going on before the coursing ban came into effect. The Police couldnt stop it then. At least with Coursing to rules, the Hare had a better than evan chance of escape.Due to the sport relying on live Hares and testing the dogs. Not providing a "pest controle" service.
Your right Phil. Talking to Morons is not going to get any right minded Field sport supporters any grace with governments or put an objctive view to the antis.

Interesting bit of info. This confirms what I said. I am no sportsman. I dont see the point of giving my dinner a chance to get away. I would also never knowingly risk pain and suffering to anything that I am not going to eat. So coursing and the like are a no in my book. This does not mean that I support the ban. It is just something that I would do.
