I'm not a technical person, but I can now do this - however, I don't know if I can explain it...
firstly you need a website or photobucket account thing. We have photobucket. Take your photo, go into photoshop, etc, and change the image size. I use 450x600 as a largest size. Gop to your photobucket page. Then you click on up-load pictures, on it. Put your picture up there. Then, copy and paste the box next to img, and put that list of letters or numbers up here... thhat might work!!

I think I remember seeing a thread on the RC site..
I'll give it a go with your link. Haha , that could be a real pandora's box !
Maybe we should say that the shy ones among us can put up a pic of , er , something else they might like to be associated with . I can set up a separate section as a gallery and/or if people would like to insert the pic into their personal introduction ( if they made one ) , then we'd have the whole picture , so to speak . Just playing the devil's advocate , tho' , we should remember that this is a public forum . I am a little uneasy about having too much personal stuff up there for all the world to see , hence the use of a psuedonym . But it would be fun ! Any thoughts anyone ? |

how about if we have avatars. Then we can put up little pictures that give some picture to our name, be it tom cruise, a cabbage, or a boat? it gives pictoral identity. if that's a phrase.

Actually I think we could go for it straight away with only a minor variation to the instructions , and Admin to activate the avatar thingy if it isn't up and running already . Unfortunately I don't know what the minor variation should be but it can't be difficult to find out .

well, turns out we can do so! Just head to your profile, and pick away...
or, you can upload a small picture to your photobucket thingie and then copy the thingie across in the right box. This I have done a few times, but it doens't always work so I won't pretend to know what I'm doing. |

Just an observation Admin. Every time I wish to log a post I have to log in. Is this personal or universal?

You have to log in if you want to make any entry ( new post or reply ) , but having logged in once you should be able to make any number of entries until you end your session by logging out . I wonder -- is this happening when you go in via an email topic reply notification ? HTH

Here is how to post clickable thumbnails with photobucket.
Go to www.photobucket.com and create your account. Then upload some pictures from your PC. You will see a box that you can tick under the pictures you want to post. Tick the boxes, scroll all the way down and click on "Generate HTML and IMG Code" .. Then you can copy the "IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards" and paste it here. Small size thumbnail displayed, and big size picture for those that clicks on it ! Good luck. I'll make a separate trade to make it stick out .. and Admin, can you please make it sticky so that people can always find it. Camile |

yep, the photobucket way works really well. I have to use it for ebay as I ahve some problem with my computer and ebay picture posting.
Also, someone mentioned using photoshop to resize pictures. Well free software that waas recommended to me about two years ago is IrfanView, excellent for resizing photos, cropping and adding special effects such as sepia tone, oil painting etc. It also allows you to make thinmnails for your desktop out of any picture. Its free to download at http://www.tucows.com/search?sear...rch_size=&search_size_multi=b When I open a picture on my computer using the windows picture manager , if I double click it automatically open Irfan view to edit the picture and resave it. Sorry, to go on but I am not the most technical person in the world and I find it easy and useful so it may be to someone else, I am grateful to the person that suggested it to me |

Well I still have a mental block about this which is a pity because I would like to put a member's pic up there ^^ in the top LH corner instead of that php logo . The warnings they give about what happens if you get it wrong are a bit alarming ! ( corrupts the whole site ) but surely it can't be all that difficult . Has anyone done it on another one of these myfreeforum templates ?
Meanwhile I was concerned that fiddling about with a pic which has been uploaded to Photobucket might also change or delete the original . Apparently it does not , in case anyone else was wondering . ( I expect I was the only person who didn't know ! ) .
