Building materials.I shall soon be wanting to buy loads of building materials and need to try an find the best deel. In the UK I would select a supplier and apply for a "Trade card". this would then get me a good discount on over the counter prices. So how does it work over here. I find that most local suppliers are reluctant to advertise their prices, and dispite their assurances that they will do me a really good deel. How would I know this?. I could itemise a list and then go round all the local suppliers and check against each other. Is this how to do it? I would really appreciate some advice please.
Cheers.

Do you know any builders, ask them where they get their supplies. I do the list thing and go in to the major places with the list and ask them to price it, but darling husband seems to know a lot of people and calls them up looking for a price and then telling them the competitors price to get a good deal.

Hi W , Mind-boggling isn't it , I mean you don't even have to have a pencil behind your ear to get your 10% "trade" in the uk . I've been trying to get trade discount on animal feed , fencing and building supplies .
No joy at all with the feed or fencing but I have only really tried at the creamery who aren't very flexible about anything .
The bldg supplies eventually came up with "trade" , but not as you'd know it .I had to open an account even tho' I want to pay as I go . I was asked to put down and maintain a credit balance of 1000 ( one thousand ) Euro in order to enjoy a discount structure which no-one would tell me anything about , except that it would be very good . They got rather shirty when I said I'd take a shopping list to their place and to a bldrs merchant up north to get a comparison . As it turned out they accepted a 500 euro deposit ( which is about what the first order will come to ) , gave me an overdraft facility and 65 ( sixty five ! ) % off list ! . It would be worth borrowing the deposit from a bank for that . So that's alright then .

Thanks for that Blowin. Its good to know that it aint just me. As you say its well worth the deposit to get 65% off. If these suppliers want my custom then they will have to come up with the goods. I will just have to do the leg work and compare the quotes
