bambooI am not sure where to put this but I guess you could call bamboo a harvest . Well , it would have been if the bl**dy horse hadn't stripped it down to ground level .
If you can ever get this stuff to transplant ( it has taken me 3 years ) , don't let sheep , goats or horses anywhere near it . I can tell you from personal experience that they will eat it in preference to anything else .

Interesting to know this Blowin. I have a few good clumps planted with the view of cutting my own canes. I expect the Goats would love to have a go at it too. As yet I have failed to get any cutting to take.

Goats are the worst because they shove their noses right into the clump to get every last new shoot
I think there must be an art to cultivating this stuff , and each different type seems to have its own preferences . I have had no success with transplanting individual canes / very small clumps , or with cuttings from the rooty shoots which run just under the ground . I tried both of these with several different soil types . No luck .
Ironically the ones which did succeed had been totally neglected . They were large , totally entangled root-balls which I shoved into plastic sacks ( no soil ) and left there for 3 years . Seriously ! A couple of new shoots appeared long after everything looked dead so I just buried the clumps in vey poor soil . They were filling out nicely until the horse got them .
