bambooIf you are planning to grow bamboo for ornament or canes take note that sheep , goats and deer and horses seem to prefer it to anything else . Fortunately it seems to grow back once the roots have become well established but mine has never had the chance to get more than a couple of feet tall .
Has anyone looked into or tried growing the edible variety -- bamboo shoots as used in Chinese cooking ?

Not had any experience at the edible variety meself, but I do have a plant growing
for its canes. Bamboo seems a bit of a problem in getting it propagated. Apart from using a huge great root ball, I have had no success from taking cuttings

Same experience myself ---it seems that you need a big rootball from a well established plant to get a new clump growing .

Beware though where you plant your Bamboo! It spreads like wildfire, and you just may be sorry you bothered in the first place. I just dug mine out...wish I had known you were looking for one As you could have dug mine out
