are the mackerel in yet ?

I am specifically interested in the rock and pier marks between Sligo / Ballina / Killala but any word of encouragement will do Laughing

No sign in the SE yet.

not here yet

Still no sign from the local shore marks in the SE, but they are being taken by the boat anglers. The Sun is what we need me thinks.

Thanks for that link. Its good to see that some mackerel are around. I fished the breakwater at Cahore point with no luck on the mackerel yet. I will try the Kilmore area next week.

Good numbers very close in to Aughris Head ( west of Sligo ) a week ago . That is a lovely mark even tho it can be dangerous when there is a bit of a swell but the ( fairly irate ) farmer told me that he has now closed the only easy access to it on account of morons leaving the gate open etc etc . Pity .

I am just glad he didn't see me picking his mushooms on the way !

mackeral

They have been getting them off the shore in Greystones Co Wicklow about 3-4 weeks ago, they are a bit early for there. No word on if they are still getting them right now though. I had a couple off the pier myself but it was dead low water and I couldnt hang around for highwater(pigs to feed etc) So definitly around. I would have thought that they would be in in numbers down south!!

Wayland, lots of Mackerel in now at Kilmore Quay. See : http://www.sea-angling-ireland.or...ewtopic.php?t=10826&start=180
for details.

Thanks for that tip Greentree. I tried a hot-spot at "Hook Head" last week and blanked. I also lost lots of tackle on the rough ground and broke my reel Crying or Very sad Laughing Laughing . I need local knowledge me thinks. The irony is that as I broke down my gear A small shoal of the darlings swam past the rock I was standing on. I am sure that they had big smiles on their faces. Strike one to them!. Do you know when they leave our shores in the autumn?

Cheers.

Wayland.

Depends on the weather. If it stays mild with southwesterlies then they are likely to stay around for a few more weeks. I am away with work at the moment but hope to try again when I am back on Wednesday. Also, keep an eye on that forum for more reports in your area...

I will try again later this week. Got a bit cold now so fingers crossed. Cheers for the forum details I`ll keep a watch on it. Wink
