Anyone made a log splitter?

I have been looking for plans to build a log splitter, there are quite a few smaller machines for sale on the web, but I was hoping to build a larger capacity machine!

Thanks

i think they are about 750, dear i know but sell loads, the electric ones are crap though, the expensive bit is the ram.....

Dont know if youve got youre splitter yet, ill be making one soon and intend to do it similar to a press i made for bending steel before. Make a H frame with a header across the top, all out of RSJs, fit a 2 way ram into the header, fit a wedge onto the end of the ram, connect to a 2way valve and connect to power pack or tractor with hydrolics.
Would be interested to hear what the ones Suirrel makes are like?

Its basically the same but horizontal, with hydrolic power, not sure how to get a pic up here though....

I was using one of these the other day. A simple but serious bit of kit. Being horizontal it could split a log 1.5 mtrs long. I suppose the sky is the limit and it all depends on how long the ram is. Easy to make methinks.

i just use an axe that way you get warmed twice from the one log Laughing Laughing Laughing

Indeed, but when you get those knotty bits that just jams the axe Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad . I am sure the log splitter that I used would split anything.
