What is the going daily rate for tree surgons in your area. Just got a quote of 900euro a day for the surgon, 2 men and a chipper. That's what it would cost to take down one large Beech tree. Seems excessive to me but what do you think?

Thanks Phil, I'll give him a shout. I've dropped a few myself but this is a big bugger.

Hi guys -- unfortunately I don't have a clue as to what you might pay over here . If it is the tree I am thinking of it would require a skilled climber with all the right gear to get around up there , and a good man on a pulley below to prevent the branches from trashing that lovely lawn . Assuming that is what the surgeons will do then 900 euro would be on the right side of what you'd pay in the UK . I would not have been too surprised at 1200 euro . Perhaps that is because they don't have to take any of the wood or chippings away ?
I am sure I am teaching grandma to suck eggs now but a couple of points it might be worth checking -- you mentioned 900 a day . Did they say how many days ? I'd question whether 2 blokes could fell , dismantle and stack a tree of that size in one day . Not to mention shoving the smaller stuff through the shredder and moving a couple of tons of chips off your drive . I hope I am wrong but I suspect that your expectation doesn't match their intention .

I'd be more than happy to come over with the chainsaw once the tree is down . It's just that I don't like heights these days ! Laughing

It is the one you are thinking of Blowin. I might just aim it at the lawn, it will have Winter to recover.

Or maybe I will just let the Westerly Storms do their stuff Confused

There is no urgency so I will have time to decide and plan.

Thanks for the offers of help lads.

It's for the skinny branches, it makes great mulch. The chipper this man was going to use can take branched 6 inches in diameter. I cut down to 2 inch pieces for the wood burners.

We will have to have a tree felling party, bring your own chainsaw !!!

Hi I charge 200 to bring a tree down or 300 if I have to climb it
if you need to chip then the hire of a chipper can very from 180 to 250 per day also for the insurance you need a groundsman I can get one guy for 100 per day hope this helps or if you want a hand I will be happy to take a look at it for you. sorry forgot to mention also have a large log splitter if needed, as for the chips you can use as a mulch or dry them and use for animal bedding which helps speed up the compost as i say if you need help get in touch
