Edible and good tho' not to be eaten raw .
Just found my first ones over here .
Not much danger of confusion with other species ( unless you are really careless ) because these are the only ones which look similar to a Field mushroom and are out at this time of year ( @ St George's day ). Having said that the Destroying Angel can come early and can look a bit like St Georges with its slightly misshapen cap . If you do eat those you will very definitely die so please be sure to go thru all of the usual diagnostics .
It has a distinctive meally smell and dense texture . Very nice fried in a little oil + knob of butter , seasoned with salt and pepper . I will have these for brekkie tomorrow .
If I never post again you can assume that I was stupid enough to mistake their identity
