It is getting near that time for sloe gin............................
I realise that some people like to leave the sloes on the trees until October but in advance of that, could I get people's sloe gin recepies.........
A search of the net yields a good many but all with varying amounts of sugar. What proportions do you use?
Cheers in advance!

No feedback on Sloe gin eh!!??
Hmmmmmm.
I still havent found any sloes in any great abundance, but I am told that this year wasnt a great year for them.
Ill give it another crack this weekend and see if I can poach any from around.
On the other hand.............anyone got any handy and I could buy them from you!!??
They are going xmas presents in the Gin form and I reckon that a few euros spent on them wouldnt amount to much. Maybe creating a small market here!? _________________ www.killerflies.com

Hello,
We've done some the last 2 years and it's well worth doing ...
we have waited both times for the sloes to have a bit of frost before picking ... makes them more tender somehow ..
and then we prick them one by one to make sure the fruit can absord the gin and vice versa ...
and it definitely improves with age as we cracked open a bottle from last year recently and it's better than ever ..

A very bad year for sloe`s around these parts. The bushies were in flower past May which is the latest that I have ever known. The elder has also struggled and no crop was possible. I was planning to make some elder spirit but , ho hum. What a crap year weatherwise. _________________ Leave not a trace. |

Hi Killerflies,
I made some slow gin for the first time down here on the ranch late last year. (sorry that i wasnt available to help when the time was right.) As Camile says, its well worth it! I remember my Grandma talking about it when i was little, and always wondered what on earth she ment - i had one of those classic child-like images of a bottle of Gin somehow running, slowly. Anyho, It worked a treat, i'' fish out the recipe from my 'Book', and send it on, with great recommendations. It looks great too. (if you like pink.) Tip of the hat, Space Cowboy.
